  • Meet our new WIMA World officers

I’m honoured to be able to introduce our new WIMA World officers:

    International President Zara Strange:

Zara has served the past 3 years as International Vice-President and during this time she took sole responsibility for organising the agenda and minutes of the ICNP meetings. In addition, she organised all our old agenda records, minutes and other archived documents that my predecessor, Claudia Fehrer, handed over. It is all nice and tidy on WIMA’s cloud space, available to all National Presidents. Her contributions to our meetings and discussions, and her advice, have been invaluable.  Those who know Zara will know that she has a warm heart, a clear head, and is dedicated to WIMA and women’s motorcycling – it’s no surprise that she was recognised with the Ellen Pfeiffer Award a couple of years back. I know that she will lead us well and I’m excited about WIMA’s future!

    International Vice-President Mihaela Hodivoianu:

Mihaela is the founder of WIMA Romania, one of our younger divisions at only 3 years old, but already thriving, well-established and extremely active with get-togethers and projects running throughout the year. Mihaela has also dedicated a great length of time to the difficult task of updating our constitution. We are delighted to have such an energetic and skilled woman as IVP.

    PR Officer Liv Seuring:

Liv is known from her role as an admin in the WRWR, an achievement for which we awarded her honorary lifetime membership in WIMA. Among other things, she was working with PR and she has lots of ideas to take with her to her new role in WIMA. We are thrilled to have someone with her experience and skillset in our team!

    PR Officer Léa Schaetzlé:

Léa is one of our newer members and fully passionate about WIMA. She works with PR professionally and she is multi lingual – we look forward to seeing her working with Liv in what is a fast-moving and challenging area.

    Onwards and upwards,

Åsa, former IP, now “just” a member 🙂

  • WIMA Norway in Straand

    WIMA Norway in Straand

Straand hotel in Vrådal hosts a bike meet, where everything motorcycle related is in focus!

Here, people in the motorcycle community, who are doing something exciting and interesting, get the opportunity to introduce themselves and their project.

WIMA Norway gave a talk and participated in the debate this year, as last year. This time also with our own tent. It was fantastic that so many people stopped by and new women found us and joined our group. Great to chat with WIMA girls from all over the country! Especially; great that the t-shirts got legs to walk on, WIMA’s logo is on the move 🙂
    !

The WIMA stall – the t-shirts are popular, no doubt due to the cool brand new logo!

WIMA had an opportunity to formally talk and get their message across to the audience. WIMA Norway is offering a broad activity calendar covering track days, first aid, gravel training, mechanical training etc. And they have established riding groups all over the country. A key to success it seems as they have now exceeded 300 members, and more are signing up.

Not everyone stayed in the hotell, camping was also an option.

Time to leave, Eli and brand new meber Barbro is packing their bikes.

  • Today we welcome four new divisions to our sisterhood: Canada, Italy, Mexico and Ukraine

WIMA is continuing to grow and we form strong bonds with the connections we made through the WRWR. Today we welcome four new divisions to our sisterhood: Canada, Italy, Mexico and Ukraine!!!!

Maria O’Reilly, WRWR admin – for which she was awarded honorary lifetime membership in WIMA – is starting a new Canadian division of WIMA (the previous division never got up to speed). Uniting women riders in the vast country of Canada is no doubt a great challenge but we have great confidence that Maria is the right person for the role!

Rosaria, former WRWR ambassador and founder of Donne Special, is starting WIMA Italy and we are thrilled – it is about time WIMA gets properly established in Italy, one of the centres of motorcycling. We think Rosaria is the perfect woman for the job!

    🏍 💕🏍 💕🏍 💕🏍 💕🏍 💕 🏍 💕🏍 💕🏍💕🏍

We are delighted to have Angelica on board with us and see the first ever WIMA division in Latin America open. Angelica has had her eye on WIMA for many years and now we are happy to finally welcome WIMA Mexico and hope to see many more countries in Central and South America to follow suit.

    💕🏍 💕🏍 💕 🏍 💕🏍 💕🏍 💕🏍💕 🏍 💕🏍

Alena, former WRWR ambassador, is trusted with the role of uniting the Ukraine women riders and building WIMA Ukraine. We have been communicating for quite a while and she has some great ideas up her sleeve.

Welcome Maria, Rosaria, Angelica and Alena to our international sisterhood! We are delighted to have you with us – WIMA now forms a 37 division-strong organisation and we are growing every day!

    Greetings from Wilnsdorf

    Greetings from Wilnsdorf 🙋🏻‍♀️🌻☀️😎🏍

In the most beautiful weather and with a little bit of sadness in the heart, some WIMA women arrived in Wilnsdorf. It’s just nice to see that at least a few girls managed to meet up. With distance and mask but with a lot of love ❤ Great that members could meet up for a day tour at least. 👍 The WIMA community is just great, also in difficult times 🥰😍

Thanks Andy, WIMA Germany for the photos and text!

  • Traditional ski weekend with WIMA Switzerland

WIMA members connect through other interestes than motorbikes as well, skiing for example! Just before the lockdown was put in place, WIMA Switzerland held their annual ski weekend for national and international members. Elsbeth, member of WIMA Switzerland, has organised this yearly gathering for 15 years now and for many members this is a highlight of the winterseason. The video is made by Chris-Maria, member of WIMA Austria.

  • Inspirational talks by WIMA members at the WRWR

Inspirational talks by WIMA members at the WRWR

In February 2020, the Women Riders World Relay came to an end in London and, as part of the celebration, Nathan Milward and the Adventure Stage at the MCN Motorcycle Show let WRWR have two hours exclusive use of their stage. This was an amazing opportunity to hear stories and be inspired by fellow WRWR women. Here we re-tell the stories from five of those presenters: Trui, Lara, Guliafshan, Caroline and Tiffany, all members of WIMA.

WIMA BAM Belgium president Trui Hanoulle, aka Elektrogirl, shared her experience as the first ever long-distance traveller on an electric motorbike in Europe. A silent but powerful riding experience between Ghent in Belgium to Istanbul in Turkey, a story that has been published in motorcycle magazines all over Europe. There is a kind of ‘loud pipes save lives’ culture and some bikers might have a hard time accepting a silent engine. However, Trui claims the silence to be one of the best things with an electric motorbike – it doesn’t take away something, it is an added sensation, you can hear the sounds in nature, the horses, the birds and even the tyres on the road. One of the perceived challenges she describes was the charging, but this actually turned out to be an added experience as well, as she found that it gave opportunities to meet people. Besides, what’s the hurry? Travel slow and enjoy the ride! One anecdote from her experience in the Balkans relates to the perception of sound and speed – there were some young boys challenging her, revving their bikes at the red lights not realising she was on an electric bike and would leave them eating her dust as soon as it turned green. Nowadays, Trui is an e-ambassador and organises electric night rides for similarly inclined people. This year will hopefully be the the 5th event and it is planned to take place in Luxembourg on the 19-20th of September. You can read more about her and e-bikes on her blog.

Lara Tarabay is the founder of the Litas Dubai, WIMA United Arab Emirates and the WRWR ambassador for UAE and Dubai. Lara’s story was, in many ways, different as she comes from a country where women’s independence is by no means something to take for granted. As she was under her husband’s sponsorship, she needed his signature to be able to obtain a driver’s licence. Learning to ride was a challenge for Laura, riding is dominated by men and although women are allowed to ride in Dubai, very few do. Lara is a great example of what a woman can do when she sets her mind to it, after only a few years riding she has achieved more than many will in a lifetime. In 2017, she started looking for a group to ride with, not being satisfied with the options, she established the Litas Dubai as a casual group for women riders where they could ride together and support each other. This was the first female Arab riding group and it was soon followed by Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Kuwait. Still striving for more, she then contacted WIMA in 2019 in order to set up a more formal group with closer international connections. Then the WRWR happened and she was all in, taking on the ambassadorship for UAE, and hosting the final event in Dubai.

Guliafshan Tariq, aka Pakistan Biker Girl, is another strong woman who has overcome difficulties and worked against prejudices and found her way. She started as a cyclist and moved on to motorcycling, as she said travelling with an engine would allow her to cover longer distances. Her dedication to her country is heart-warming, her mission is to show the Pakistan that media doesn’t show, and she has opened up her house hosting travellers from all over the world in order to spread positive messages about her country. She was intending to travel in the UK as an ambassador for her country, but is currently stuck in Scotland due to the Coronavirus Lockdown. She does, however, plan to continue her travelling and travel further afield as well but, for her, visas are an issue with many countries due to her Pakistani passport. Guliafshan also made a huge contribution to the WRWR in her country, but ironically it had to be a foreign motorbike traveller who took the baton across the border to India as Guliafshan couldn’t obtain a visa. Those of us who are born in Western countries often don’t realise how fortunate we are being born with the passport we have.

Guliafshan first contacted WIMA a shade over a year ago and started the discussions about setting up a WIMA division in Pakistan. In the meantime, she has created a female riding group of about 20 women and she plans to hold training events as well as raise awareness of safety gear and other activities. You can find out more about Guliafshan and her projects through her YouTube channel.

Caroline Lunnon, member of WIMA GB, has travelled around the world on her motorbike. Before circumnavigating the globe with only a weekend of camping in Wales as preparation, Caroline dealt with an even larger challenge, the inner journey coming to terms with loss and grief which made even getting out of bed a great challenge. She described it as pushing boundaries, from small things such as everyday chores to bigger challenges such as trekking up to Mount Everest base camp. She started her circumnavigation riding east and spent about 2 years on the road. In WIMA we love to connect people and she spent two weeks with Nor, national president of WIMA Malaysia. She said she learned from Nor to travel slow and savour the experience and the encounters which meant that after Malaysia her travelling pace slowed down. When she completed her world travels she decided to sell her house, saying that she didn’t want that anchor to hold her down. Her journey is both an inner journey and an overland journey which shows that we are capable of dealing with more than we can ever imagine.

Tiffany Coates, long-time member of WIMA GB, and frequent speaker at different overland events shared her first journey with us: the history behind the purchase of the famous Thelma the bike. Tiffany didn’t take up biking until she was 29 and it was all the result of an idea of travelling overland to India with her friend Becky. They both got their licences in preparation for the trip and spent 2 weeks riding in London before they left the country. On a good day they would only fall twice. The bike was heavy and tall, they were on tiptoes, two up with luggage. Although the idea was to ride to India they refused to stop when they got there, they just rode on until they ran out of money. And then they worked to earn more and travel further. What was supposed to be a 6-8-month journey became 2 and a half years. Tiffany has continued to travel ever since and is one of the foremost female motorcyclist adventure travellers in the word. On Tiffany’s Travels you can read more about her and even book a place on one of her tours as she is also a travel guide.

The ExCel centre in London is currently a field hospital and many of us are not riding due to legal restrictions or recommendations. Hopefully, this introduction to a few of our amazing WIMA members will have left you feeling inspired, and with a few new websites and youtube channels to check out, time will pass quicker until we can ride together again.

It is a year since the International WIMA rally in the Caribbean – enjoy this video of the Dushi WIMA Rally to soak up the atmosphere!

  • New leadership for WIMA Curaçao

    New leadership for WIMA Curaçao

WIMA Curaçao has elected a new president, and we are happy to welcome Majesse van Boheemen to our Council of International Presidents! We look forward to working with you!

    Read Majesse’s own introduction here:

Hi WIMA International. I’d like to introduce myself as the new president of WIMA Curaçao. My name is Majesse van Boheemen and I was born on Curaçao on 1st March 1964. I ride a 650 Yamaha V-Star, which is my 1st motorcycle and I really love motorcycling. Since March 2020  I have been president of WIMA Curaçao and I feel very honoured to have been chosen to fulfill this task. I feel proud of this, because being a member of WIMA, we build up an international network of motorcycling women to share our girlpower. It also helps break down the image of women not being able to or not being supposed to ride motorcycles. Riding is great and totally fit for us! During our Dushi WIMA Rally of April 2019, here on Curaçao, I have experienced how many beautiful women are members of WIMA. I hadn’t even realised that so many women in such a lot of countries were affilliated, riding and meeting each other all over the world! Women of different ages, backgrounds and with different levels of experience riding all sorts of motorcycles, that is what appeals to me most about WIMA. I hope to get a chance to participate in an International Rally elsewhere.

WIMA World wish to thank Carin Mecera for your years of service  – how lovely to see you with your team at your christmas dinner!

In the words of WIMA Curaçao:

WIMA Christmasdinner with the Wima’s. Enjoying the company, food, drinks and presents. Looking back at a great rally this year and looking forward to a new year with a lot of rides and activities together. We also thanked and said goodbye to our president Carin Mecera. Dear Carin thanks for all the hard work and love for Wima Curacao!
