Ellen Pfeiffer Award recipient in 2004
The first recipient of the Ellen Pfeiffer award was Janet Cox of WIMA GB.
Janet was an enthusiastic member of WIMA, attending international rallies from 1982 onwards. In November 1992 she had an accident on her way to work on her FJ1200 and was paralysed. Her boyfriend Ian, also a keen biker, bought a sidecar and together they continued to ride to the rallies, camping and taking the wheelchair with them. Janet and Ian even joined in the Japan WIMA trip in 1996 at a time when there was very little accessibility for wheelchair users (not just in Japan it should be said).
The WIMA national presidents and all who knew Janet were inspired by her courage and determination to continue attending our international rallies and her refusal to think she was anybody special. The photograph is taken from Swedish member Rita Creighton’s calendar showing Janet riding a specially adapted sidecar at the 1994 rally in Wales.
